2009 February Tahoe

Here are some pictures from our ski trip to Lake Tahoe in February 2009. This was the first big vacation when I've had all 6 of my children (including my son in law Mat), and my granddaughter together at the same time. Mat, Tiffany, and Tricia had snowboarded before; so Mat and Tiffany helped Mark and Tamara learn to snowboard, while Tassy got ski lessons. Kim, played with Carleigh while the rest of us played on the mountain.

After a day of lessons, and a day on the beginner slope, Tassy wanted to hit the big lift, the Tamarac Express, so silly me, I told her, "sure, if you can navigate the cones they just put on the beginner slope." Well, first time down, she looked like a pro swinging in and out of the cones, so up we went to the intermediate slopes on the Tamarac. She fell a few times the first time down, but by the time we were done, I could hardly keep up with her. At one point, I thought she hit a jump-like slope too fast, so I stopped at the top, expecting to see her having tumbled below. Instead, she was far off in front, waiting for me at the lift.

Mark was a natural on the snowboard, "carving" the mountain by his second day. He even appreciated the helmet we got him, after a few splendid wipeouts - but he easily kept up with me, on my skis.

We were there the birthday week for Tamara, and Tricia, so we had fun shopping, and eating out to celebrate.

We had to use tire chains on the drive home, taking an alternate route to minimize time in the snow. On the way down from the mountain, we passed emergency crews working with a car that had tumbled into a ravine on the side of the road. As we reached just south of Sacramento on the drive home, we saw the double rainbow.
